Who We Are

Big Sky SNO began with a vision, and an interest in identifying and addressing some of Big Sky’s most significant sustainability priorities and challenges.

From a small group of dedicated individuals grew a working committee of more than a dozen, all focused on pooling ideas and exploring solutions for how we meet the evolving needs of sustainability for a community infrastructure that rises to the demands of our diverse and expanding elements of growth.

The recently released Big Sky Community Climate Action Plan will be implemented over time to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. Your volunteering helps our community collaborate on moving the needle towards that.

What We Do

Big Sky SNO works on identifying sustainability issues in several key components of every day life in Big Sky, looking for solutions to both big and small challenges that we face as a dynamic growing community.

Our committee explores solutions for everything ranging from waste reduction and recycling, to community education, carbon emissions, environmental resource protections, transportation, energy consumption, tourism and more.

Our goal is to engage the community, to identify ways that both residents and visitors can contribute to a more sustainable community, to identify resources and implement tactics that will help us all achieve a more mindful path to moving Big Sky forward.  The 2023 Big Sky Community Climate Action Plan (CAP) acts as a trail map to net-zero emissions by 2050. Each project and program we develop aims to work under the umbrella of the CAP.
